In 1979 a group of surfers from New
Smyrna Beach, Florida formed the Smyrna Surfari Club. They wanted to create a
non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the sport of surfing. They
focused on two ways to reach their goal. The first, and most obvious, was
sponsoring surfing competitions at both the amateur and professional level. The
second, which club members are most proud of, was the awarding of scholarships
to high school seniors/surfers. Since 1979, the Smyrna Surfari Club has hosted
over 50 surf contests and awarded over $80,000 in scholarship monies. Not bad
for a group of old surf bums.
April 1, 2009 will mark the club's 30th birthday and the club is still going
strong. This year we'll be hosting three contests and awarding three scholarships.
Please see the "Coming Events" page for contest information.
We are proud of our accomplishments and thankful for
the support from sponsors, surfers and our community. We hope to continue
supporting the sport of surfing and young surfers for years to come.
